Metta for the New Year
As we settle into the new year, let's take the time to cultivate an open heart and kindness for ourselves and others.
Jackie Stewart will lead a guided meditation session focused on the practice of lovingkindness or metta—a practice of cultivating care and goodwill toward yourself and others.
Whether you’re new to meditation or an experienced practitioner, this gathering offers a warm space to pause, breathe, and begin the year with care.
We'll also share about upcoming programs at A Mindful World, including our yearlong advanced and introductory Buddhist studies programs.
About the Teacher
Jackie Stewart is a meditation teacher and mindfulness advisor based in NYC. She is part of the faculty for A Mindful World's advanced Buddhist studies program, Mindful.Dharma. She is currently a student of Mingyur Rinpoche, and serves as a practice leader in his international community, Tergar. Jackie has an MA from NYU’s school of Culture, Education, and Human Development, with a professional background in the film and TV industries. She is a mother and wife, and has found the practice of meditation an invaluable tool to parenting (and partnering) with awareness and compassion.
Intro to RAIN Meditation
R.A.I.N. is a meditation technique for bringing mindfulness and wisdom to difficult (sometimes hidden or layered) emotions, thoughts, or body states.
Developed by Vipassana teacher Michele McDonald, then popularized by Tara Brach, this technique has been adopted and adapted by many Western mindfulness teachers.
In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of R.A.I.N, and learn to meet—and listen to—difficult emotions. Attendees will leave with a technique that can be used as a structured contemplation for meeting strong emotions in daily life.
About the Teacher
Maho Kawachi is part of the faculty for the Mindful.Dharma Advanced Buddhist Studies program. Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Maho Kawachi first encountered meditation and Buddhism in downtown Manhattan in 2000. She became an avid practitioner in 2008 and has over a decade of experience, practice, training, and certification credentials including completion of the Interdependence Project Teachers Training, Mindful Meditation Teachers Certified Program, and Mindful Mentor Training. She has trained with and under many influential teachers, including Ethan Nichtern, Jack Kornfield, and Tara Brach, and was fortunate to meet with HH the Dalai Lama in 2017.

Finding Stability in an Unstable World: A Discussion with Ethan Nichtern & Dan Harris
Free with RSVP here
In a world that often feels like it's teetering on the edge, many of us grapple with overwhelming feelings of instability and uncertainty.
Compounding global conflicts, an intensifying climate crisis, widespread social inequality, and rising economic disparities can lead to a myriad of emotions like fear and anxiety that can leave us feeling untethered and disconnected.
On Wednesday, December 10th, join Ethan Nichtern, Head of Yearlong Buddhist Studies at Dharma Moon, and Dan Harris, host of the popular podcast 10% Happier, for a conversation on staying grounded, available, and engaged, even when the world is on fire.
During our discussion, we'll explore:
Recognizing crises, whether personal or global, as opportunities for growth and transformation.
Fostering compassion and empathy, even when facing conflict or strong differences of opinion.
Using meditation to work with anxiety, fear, and other destabilizing emotions.
Embracing change as a fundamental aspect of life to help us navigate uncertainties.
How cultivating awareness helps us stay grounded amid life's chaos.
Understanding how our attachments, whether material or emotional, can be sources of instability and how the practice of letting go leads to resilience and less suffering.
Ethan will also discuss the upcoming Dharma Moon Yearlong Buddhist Studies program and offer insights on how studying Buddhism can help us show up more fully for ourselves and others during these difficult times.
